WELCOME
Clive Butterworth is a landscape and portrait painter who lives and works in his beloved Yorkshire.
"Trained during the late 1950's I was taught to understand the importance of draftsmanship as the anchor from which creative work can flourish. In later years Art Colleges moved away from this thinking to replace it by encouraging students to be artists from the commencement of their art course. It is my grounding which, whilst not making me a Pre-Raphaelite, certainly precludes me from being a Conceptual Artist. I have unashamedly included work dating from my days at Huddersfield School of Art to the present day to illustrate my training.
My creative interests have gone beyond painting:
book illustration,
filmstrips for the Nuffield Foundation Foreign Language Courses,
opening a studio pottery,
photography with an emphasis on nature and man made forms,
calligraphy,
and recently digital art using my tablet as a sketch book"
